The name of a previous owner has been pasted onto the endpaper beneath the authors inscription. I have made some repairs to some of the tears from the reverse side of the jacket using archival tape. There is a scratch on the back of the cover and a small white chip of paper is missing. The jacket is quite torn and missing parts at the corners and the spine in particular. The pages are, but for occasional marks of little significance, clean. The cover is only a little worn at the corners. Considered one of the finest works of Ingri and Edgar Parin d’Aulaire, Leif the Lucky will delight both children and adults with the story of Leif, son of Erik the Red, who sailed with his father and a Viking crew to Greenland and then farther west to the continent of America. This gives them their extraordinary colour and appearance. The pictures in the book are produced by drawing the coloured and black and white illustrations directly on stone. 'Leif the Lucky, sturdy adventurous son of Erik The Red steps out of the past in this picture book as a vivid hero - first the little boy who sailed with his father to a new home in Greenland and who later sailed still further West and found there the continent of America. Coloured and black and white images on every page. Inscribed by the authors and illustrators Ingri and Edgar Parin D'Aulaire. Published by Doubleday, Doran & Co in 1941.
